Hand washing

To minimise the spread of germs and prevent cross infection

At FIRST IDEA FAMILY DAY CARE SERVICES, we ensure that children and educators and other stakeholders wash hands with soap and water or anti-bacterial gel, before and after any activity. Gel should not be used as a substitute for hand washing when there is soap and running water available.

Handwashing should occur at these times

  • Before and after eating/handling food
  • Before preparing /cooking food
  • After changing nappy
  • After going to the toilet
  • After cleaning up or any contact with bodily fluids
  • After giving first aid or CPR
  • After handling garbage
  • After playing outside, in a sand pit, or wading pool
  • After touching animals
  • Infants should have their hands wiped after the nappy change
