First Aid Kit Requirements

Purpose
To provide clear guidelines for educators to carry out their duty of care and keep the first aid kit readily available at all the times while children are being educated and cared for.

Scope
These guidelines are applicable to the Approved provider, nominated supervisor, certified supervisor, staff, educators/educator assistant, students, volunteers.

Objectives
To ensure the educators/educator assistants have the first aid kit ready to provide required first aid treatment in case of emergencies and provide a safe & healthy learning environment to the children being educated and cared for and ensure the overall well-being of the children.

Policy
We at FIRST IDEA FAMILY DAY CARE SERVICES, we ensure that the educators have a first aid kit at the venue / FDC residence, one in the vehicle which the educators use to transport the children as part of the service provided with all the items listed below.

  • The following list includes the items recommended as contents for the service first aid kit
  • Emergency services telephone numbers and addresses
  • Basic first aid notes and resuscitation chart
  • Medicine glass
  • Disposable gloves
  • Scissors
  • Band-Aids/individually wrapped sterile adhesive dressing
  • Elastoplast, 25-30mm wide
  • Crepe bandage ,50mm and 75 mm
  • Triangular bandage for use of a sling
  • Sterile gauze
  • Sterile cotton wool
  • Antiseptic liquid for cleaning wounds
  • Eye wash
  • Asthma requirements

Procedures
The approved provider/Certified supervisor, nominated supervisors check the first aid kit to ensure the kit consists of all the listed items

Educators are aware of the expiry date on the listed items and replace any item which has expired.
